The following case study aims at describing and analysing the implementation of an integrated and multisectoral approach for the development of the economic and social capital of the community of Abourda, located in the Department of Dababa in the Hadjer-Lamis region. This experience was identified as a good practice because the implementation of complementary actions brought synergy and resulted in a significant improvement of the living conditions and resilience of the local population.
The implementation of this approach came as a recommendation from IFAD, which during a supervision mission noticed that the activities developed by the project were presented as detached and isolated, which had a limited effect. This led to the search for a strategy to have a stronger impact. Thus, in a processual way, a systemic and multisectoral approach began to emerge in the village of Abourda, involving a series of interventions in hydro-agricultural development, production enhancement, support to economic activities and transversal measures.
Although this approach is still in its experimental phase, it is an interesting experience that allows us to envisage that all the activities are in some way linked, articulated and interlinked in their execution, and can contribute more effectively to social cohesion and the socio-economic integration of the local populations.
