Youth Managers

Continuous accompaniment of organisations in the inclusion of young people.

This document is a participatory systematisation of the Youth Managers Programme implemented by the Rural Development Programme for the Northern Region (PRODENORTE), implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), with funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Guatemala.

The systematisation of this experience gathers learning on mechanisms and practices for the inclusion of young people in rural organisations. Practices that the PRODENORTE Programme applied to the support of business plans for the acquisition of productive assets, investment in infrastructure and market access, benefiting 15 women and 15 men in their labour market insertion. The experiences included in the systematisation correspond to the rural organisations OXLAJÚ AJPÚ, FUNDALACHUÁ and APODIP.

This systematisation addresses practices that have contributed to the inclusion of young people in rural organisations, improving their human capital and employability and, on the other hand, organisational labour training practices, based on the identification of demand, the generation of trust and the continuous accompaniment of the organisations in the inclusion of young people.

The fieldwork for this systematisation was carried out in February 2020 in the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, within the framework of the project Jóvenes Protagonistas del Desarrollo Rural Territorial (Young Protagonists of Territorial Rural Development), implemented by PROCASUR and the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council (SECAC) with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
