Life plans and the situation of young rural people in Central America
Facts from the Rural Youth Networks in the SICA Region
Based on the results of a survey of young people belonging to rural youth networks, mainly in Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras), some aspects that are central to characterising the situation of young people and their possibilities for social inclusion in the region’s rural territories are described below.
The data collection process for this study was carried out between 30 January and 29 February 2020, and included web, telephone and face-to-face surveys.
The information was registered in the SurveyMonkey platform, reaching a total of 482 responses. Due to the non-probabilistic nature of the sample, it is not possible to extrapolate the results to the entire target population, but it does allow access to relevant information to characterise the young people who participate in the processes of building and strengthening networks promoted by the Project “Young Protagonists of Territorial Rural Development in the SICA Region”, implemented by PROCASUR and the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council with funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
